Summer in Madrid is normally hot with temperatures rising up to 40º C (104º F), is also a season full of parties and celebrations, like the feasts of El Carmen, San Lorenzo and La Paloma. One of the festivities that has kept growing over the last years is the Madrid Gay Pride Week.
From July 1st to July 5th the Spanish Capital is the center of the LGBT community. Celebrations start with the Pregón, which is a short speech, normally given by a renowned speaker (this year, film director Alejandro Amenábar and actress Cayetana Guillén Cuervo are the pregoneros) and continue with street concerts in as many as four different locations. The highpoint of the week is the Gay Pride Parade on Saturday 4th, which will go from the Atocha train station to Columbus square, it’s the biggest of its kind in Europe.
Madrid’s Chueca neighborhood will be the center of this five days celebration of diversity and its shops, bars and restaurants will be delighted to receive all visitors. For more information about the event log on to http://www.madridorgullo.com/en/
